It should be considered when heat reduction and reduced condensation is needed. Thickness Width Length Area Weight U-Value 6 mm 1.220 m 1.8 to 5.8m 1.3 kg/m2 3.5 W/m2 ºC 8 mm 1.220 m 1.8 to 5.8m 1.5 kg/m2 3.3 W/m2 ºC What is the U-Value? The U-value is a measure of how many watts (representing the rate of flow of energy) pass through one square metre (m2), for every degree difference in temperature between the inside and the outside. The lower the U-value, the better the insulation properties. For reference, single glazed windows are usually 6.0, double glazed windows can be anything from 1.6 (gas filled) to 3.7 Single skin polycarbonate is usually 5.9 As an example, a U-value of 6.0 means that six watts will be escaping through each square metre of glass when the temperature difference is one degree. If it is 20°C in the house and 0°C outside, then the heat loss is 20 x 6 = 120 watts per square metre. Note, this is different from the R value (used for insulation). The higher the R value, the better the insulation properties. So a U value of 3.5 is equivalent to an R value of 0.3
